About the event

The City of Annapolis has been identified by the United Nations Science Cultural Organization and the Middle Passage Ceremonies and Port Markers Project as a “Site of Memory” during the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Please join County Executive Steuart Pittman, Mayor Gavin Buckley, and the Annapolis Port Marker Committee for this historic moment as we commemorate the Site of Memory Port Marker at the Annapolis City Dock.

The Ceremony will take place from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Asbury United Methodist Church (located at 87 West Street), with a brief reception to follow. We look forward to seeing you as we unveil the port marker, which is meant to honor the two million captive Africans who perished during the Middle Passage and the ten million who survived to build the Americas.

Free parking will be available in the Whitmore Garage from 10:00 am - 2:00 p.m. for this event.
